Journalist and editor Juan Cruz, to give a masterclass on his vision of the world of publishing
On 25 June, UPF-IDEC’s Master in Publishing will enjoy a visit from the journalist and editor Juan Cruz, Deputy Director of national newspaper El País. Juan Cruz received the National Cultural Journalism Prize 2012, awarded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport.
His masterclass, titled “A zenithal vision of the world of publishing” will take place on Wednesday 25 June at 6.30pm at UPF-IDEC’s auditorium (Balmes, 132). It will be presented by Javier Aparicio Maydeu, lecturer for the Faculty of Humanities at UPF and director of the Master in Publishing.
Juan Cruz’s conference comes a week after the round-table discussion held with Jorge Herralde (founder of Anagrama), the writer Eduardo Mendoza, Nahir Gutiérrez (director of communications at Seix Barral, Grupo Planeta), Sandra Bruna (Literary Agency Sandra Bruna), and journalist and writer Ricard Ruiz Garzón, and once again demonstrates the international prestige and total consolidation that the Master in Publishing, about to celebrate its 20th anniversary, has within the publishing sector.
Throughout these 19 years, UPF-IDEC’s Master in Publishing has received almost 900 students and enjoys the support and collaboration of the entire Spanish publishing sector, including Grupo Planeta, Anagrama, Penguin Random House, Group 62, Google, Círculo de Lectores, the Catalan Publishing Association, the Frankfurt Book Fair, and CEDRO, among many others. This allows for the academic content to be kept permanently updated, to maintain constant contact with the publishing world and each year receive talks from internationally recognized speakers.
Closing ceremony to be dedicated to the distinguished editor Jaume Vallcorba
The closing ceremony for this 19th edition of the Master in Publishing will take place on 1 July at 7pm at the auditorium in the Balmes Building, an event which the Master’s director, Javier Aparicio Maydeu, wishes to dedicate to, and focus on, the prestige and international personality of editor Jaume Vallcorba, as founder of Quaderns Crema and El Acantilado. Jaume Vallcorba’s career in the publishing world has been recognized on numerous occasions, especially in the year 2002 by the Ministry of Education, for the National Awards for the Best Publishing Work, and this year for the National Cultural Awards CoNCA 2014. Mr Vallcorba has prepared a speech addressed to the students, our future editors.
