“Who’s afraid of co-payment?”, by Jaume Puig-Junoy, available on line in English

Jaume Puig-Junoy, who in 2012 published the book “¿Quién teme al copago? El papel de los precios en nuestras decisiones sanitarias” (“Who’s afraid of co-payment? The role of prices in our healthcare decisions “, published by Los libros de El Lince. Barcelona 2012), has published the online version in English. The book is available from Amazon with the title Paying for Free Healthcare. The role of prices in our healthcare decisions.

The book was published to coincide with the coming into force of the new pharmaceutical co-payment system for Catalan pensioners. Jaume Puig-Junoy is a lecturer in public economics at the UPF and director of the University Master in Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics  and of the International Master in Health Economics and Pharmaeconomics of the Barcelona School of Management, which are taught on line.

According to Puig-Junoy, the main danger of co-payment for medicines is that the patients make more use of the services which are not yet taxed, such as medical consultations and casualty.
