Who can wait, should wait, by Jaume Puig-Junoy
In an article published on 11 May in the newspaper El Periódico
de Catalunya, t he director of the Master's
in Health and Medicine Economics and Pharmacoeconomics. Online gave his
opinion on how hospitals should draw up a list of priorities adapted to the
reduction in resources.
The director of the Health
Economics Research Centre at Pompeu Fabra University stated that “the
responses provided by hospitals for transferring the application of the public
budget cuts show little imagination and are more typical of managers used
to administrating increases year after year rather than of someone who has
to justify healthcare results”. Puig-Junoy added his personal comment that “leaving
aside whether the healthcare cuts are appropriate, I suspect that if hospitals
were submitted to a suitable and healthy dose of competence, their response
(…) would probably
be radically different”.
