VIII Annual Conference of the UPF Advisory Board in Argentina
On the morning of 5 July, the Salón Dorado of the Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires was the setting for the VIII Annual Conference of the Pompeu Fabra University’s Advisory Board in Argentina: “Innovation against Strategy?” With over a hundred attendees, the event had the UPF lecturer Xavier Marcet, an expert in Innovation, as the main speaker.
The Conference was sponsored by the firm Perez Alati, Grondona, Benites, Arntsen & Martinez de Hoz (h), and began with some words of welcome by Dr Jorge Pérez Alati, President of the UPF Advisory board in Argentina. This was followed by the presentation by Xavier Marcet, Innovation against strategy? Formulae to convert innovation into business, in which he discussed certain principles whose application could guarantee the success of companies.
After the talk, there was a Round Table, Business innovation cases: Lessons learned, moderated by Lucas Pussetto (Master in Economics, Pompeu Fabra University), with the participation of Santiago Sanguineti, General Manager of INIS - Biotech S.A., who discussed technology transfer and business incubation in the Leloir Institute Foundation; Abel Di Gilio, President of Sinergium Biotech S.A., who talked about the innovative model of strategic alliances between national and international companies to produce vaccines and biological products; Pablo Furnari, Director of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, who presented the First Export Programme as a tool of innovation; and Lino Cattaruzzi, CEO of Google Argentina, who explained that innovating is Google’s basic attitude and who showed some of the company’s technological developments.
The final presentation was by Jorge Robbio, Undersecretary for Studies and Planning of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, who spoke about the public Innovation policies that the Ministry develops.
To close the event, Carme Martinell, Director General of the Pompeu Fabra University’s Continuing Education Institute Private Foundation, addressed those present, thanking them for their presence at the Conference and also thanking the speakers. Martinell defended the validity of the methodology and the importance of innovation in any business development.
