Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Microsoft announce BCNPlay2008

June 30 th will see the start of BCNPlay2008, the video games summer school organised by Pompeu Fabra University and IDEC (Institute for Continuing Education), which in its second edition will be supported once again by Xbox 360?.

Bcnplay2008 will be the meeting point for video games developers, bringing together top quality continuing training and the experience of a summer school in a university setting. One of the most outstanding new features of this edition is the extended training offer in Xbox 360, with two workshops on XNA Game Studio Express, one basic and the other advanced. The workshop on advanced programming, which is new this year, will focus especially on character animation techniques, taking the popular Marcus Fenix from Gears of War? as an example.

In the workshops section, BCNPlay will be offering courses on product design, shader programming and the creation of video game characters, with an emphasis on techniques for new generation consoles. As usual at UPF, the courses will all be taught by professionals from the industry, who together represent over fifty years of combined developmental experience.

Another new feature of this edition will be master classes, which will be given by prominent members of the industry. This year Ricard Pillosu, Artificial Intelligence programmer at Crytek, the creators of Crysis, will be presenting AI techniques used in the studio. Additional talks will be announced shortly.

?Microsoft is pleased to be collaborating with BCNPlay once again. Creativity knows no boundaries and we are convinced that the additional coverage of XNA will enable Spanish creators to really take off? ? stated Oscar del Moral, Head of Production for Xbox in Spain. Once again Microsoft has been a key member, providing the event with organisational and logistic support. In the words of Daniel Sánchez-Crespo, Director of Bcnplay2008, ?after a successful first edition, this year we hope to establish our offer and become an obligatory point of reference in video games training in Spain?.
