The QS World University Rankings 2012 is one of the world’s most prestigious. It is prepared annually by Quacquerelli Symonds (QS) and assesses over 2,000 institutions, including 700 universities from all over the world.
The indices are calculated taking six indicators into account: reputation of the centre according to academics (40%), prestige of the centre according to the private sector (10%), number of citations according to SciVerse Scopus by lecturer (20%), ratio of students per lecturer (20%), percentage of foreign students (5%) and percentage of lecturers from other countries (5%).
A global ranking is prepared with these indicators, in addition to the different specific rankings by area of knowledge. In particular, the indices are for the Arts & Humanities; Engineering & Technology; Life Sciences & Medicine; Natural Sciences and, finally, Social Sciences and Management areas.
