Record of students on the Master in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication

The Master in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication from UPF Barcelona School of Management, which is managed by Vladimir de Semir and Gema Revuelta from the Studies Centre on Science, Communication and Society from UPF (SCS-UPF), kept a record of participants this academic year: There were 42 students enrolled in total, with 17 face-to-face and 25 online students. The face-to-face version has reached its twenty-first edition and the online version is celebrating its third.

In both courses, 75 percent of students are female and 25 percent are male. A total of 50% of students on the face-to-face course have previously completed studies in biology, and the remainder is split between journalism and communication, medicine, public relations, fine arts, linguistics, pharmacy, chemistry and veterinary. As would be expected, the majority of face-to-face students are from Catalonia, however Madrid, Valencia, Santiago de Compostela and Guadalajara (Mexico) are also represented.

Some 50% of the online students have completed degrees in journalism or biology and the remaining 50% have completed other studies such as veterinary, biotechnology, physics, chemistry, medicine, philosophy, genetics, engineering... In relation to the places of origin of the distance-learning students, half live in Spain and the remainder are split between Switzerland (two in Geneva), France (Paris and Saint-Germain-en-Laye), UK (Birmingham) and The Netherlands (Amsterdam) and from outside Europe: Abu Dhabi, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires and Montevideo. In Spain, the majority are from Barcelona, but there are also students from Salamanca, Seville, Murcia, Huesca, Tenerife, Las Palmas, Girona and Zaragoza.
