Pascual Ortuño, Magistrate of Barcelona Provincial Court, inaugurates the Postgraduate Programme in Professional Mediation

Mediation, the extrajudicial settlement of conflicts in the field of civil and commercial law, is now one of the most promising career paths for graduates and degree holders, with high development potential. More and more social conflicts and disputes in the civil and commercial fields are being resolved through a third party, the mediator, who is trained and specialised in reaching speedy, amicable solutions and avoiding unnecessary delays.

This certainly seemed the case on Thursday 25 October during the opening of the new Postgraduate Programme in Professional Mediation, recently launched at the IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Pascual Ortuño, Magistrate of Barcelona Provincial Court and President of the GEMME (European Association of Judges for Mediation), gave the opening speech for the course, highlighting the need for talented mediators to speed up the resolution process for social, civil and commercial conflicts.

The event was also attended by Anna Llançà, the Director of the Catalan Private Law Mediation Centre, which forms part of the Generalitat of Catalonia. There, she announced the publication in the DOGC (the Generalitat’s Official Gazette) of the regulation of training courses related to mediation, in order to further promote the profession in Catalonia.
