I Conference of the UPF Advisory Board in Colombia

The I Conference of the UPF Advisory Board in Bogotá took place on 8 July last, with the title “Innovation against strategy?”. The President of the Advisory Board, Francesc Solé, a member of the Board of Directors of Pacific Rubiales, welcomed the more than fifty attendees.

This first conference included the participation of Xavier Marcet, a UPF lecturer and consultant in Innovation. During his presentation he highlighted how innovation has succeeded in being the key which has allowed and will allow companies to make progress.

To accompany the first presentation, representatives of two member companies of the Advisory Board in Bogotá offered practical examples of Innovation.

The first report was by Mr Henry Laíño, Area Manager of Aqualogy (Agbar Group) Colombia, and entitled “Cities in Transformation. New technologies for efficient water management. Business evolution in the water sector”. In it he explained how creativity and innovation are an essential tool for the design of new efficient water management formulae.

The second and final report was by Mr Carlos Alberto Castañeda from Telefónica, who presented the “Wayra Project” as a case of business innovation in Telefónica.  This new initiative arose with the aim of supporting disruptive projects which have sufficient potential to transform a company.

This first conference was closed by Mrs Carme Martinell, Director General of the Pompeu Fabra University’s Continuing Education Institute Private Foundation.
