Gabriel Hormaechea, winner of the 15th Ángel Crespo Translation Award

Gabriel Hormaechea, translator and lecturer on the Master’s in Literary and Audiovisual Translationat IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra, has been awarded the Ángel Crespo Translation Award for the Spanish translation of Gargantua, by François Rabelais, published in Barcelona by the Acantilado publishing house.

The 6,000 euro translation award, which is one of the most important in Spain, is organised by the Collegiate Association of Writers of Catalonia (ACEC), the Editors’ Guild of Catalonia and the Spanish Centre for Reprographic Rights (CEDRO).

The jury consisted of Pilar Gómez Bedate, retired Lecturer at Pompeu Fabra University; Luisa Cotoner, Lecturer at the University of Vic; Núria Petit, Translator; Joan Sallent, Translator and Lecturer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona; and Lluís Maria Todó, Translator and Professor Emeritus at Pompeu Fabra University.

For the same translation of the work Gargantua, this November, the Collegiate Association of Writers of Spain awarded him the 7th Esther Benítez Prize.

The award ceremony for the prize shall take place on 19 December at 8 pm in the Aula dels Escriptors of the Ateneo Barcelonés.
