D'A - Festival Internacional de Cinema d'Autor de Barcelona
Neus Ballús and Carla Subirana, alumni from the Master in Creative Documentary, and Elías Leon Siminiani, a lecturer on the Postgraduate Programme in Audiovisual Editing, will present their latest feature films at the third D'A - Festival Internacional de Cinema d'Autor de Barcelona, which will take place between 25 April and 2 May in Barcelona.
Neus Ballús will present the film La Plaga (2013), her debut as a film director. It will be screened on Thursday, 2 May, at 20.00 hours, as the closing event of the festival, on screen 1 of Aribau cinema. This work – which already inaugurated the prestigious "Forum" section at the Berlinale 2013 -, half way between documentary and fiction, talks about the current economic crisis through the story of five people from the outskirts of Barcelona who are struggling to survive.
Carla Subirana, who initially collaborated with the master Joaquim Jordà, is the director of Volar (2012). Included in the "Catalan authors" section of the Festival, the film can be seen on Sunday, 28 April, at 18.00 hours, in the auditorium of the CCCB. The story – a critical and comprehensive portrait of the military – penetrates a Spanish military academy and offers a precise account of the training period of a group of young cadets.
D'A 2013, in the "Film Diaries" section, recovers the film Mapa (2012), the first work of the UPF lecturer Elías León Siminiani (Santander, 1971), finalist in the latest edition of the Goya awards in the best documentary film category. The film, which will be screened on Monday, 29 April, at 21.15 hours, in the auditorium of the CCCB, is a personal diary which narrates the story of a Spanish filmmaker. After finding himself out of work and leaving his girlfriend, he goes on a journey to India with the idea of making his first feature film and of finding himself.
