UPF creates the Pompeu Fabra Chair in celebration of Catalan identity

Pompeu Fabra University has created the Pompeu Fabra Chair with the aim of making the university’s commitment to Catalan identity more explicit, and to give more visibility to its activities in promoting Catalan languages and cultures, in both research and teaching.

The chair, directed by M. Teresa Cabré, emeritus professor at UPF and academic director of the postgraduate course in Terminology, is supported by the Institute of Catalan Studies and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia. The chair will operate in different areas: promotion of knowledge and use of the language in teaching and by studies; production of resources for learning and improvement of linguistic quality; promotion of use of Catalan; and cultural outreach.

The inauguration included a reading by Josep Ramoneda, journalist and writer, of a piece called “Philosophy of identity”.  M. Teresa CabréJaume Casals, rector of UPF; Joandomènec Ros, president of the ICE and Ester Franquesa, general director of Linguistic Policy also participated in the event.
