Bowie Talks: experts and academics decipher Bowie
UPF Barcelona School of Management is one of the main sponsors of the international tour David Bowie is, the major exhibition about the figure of David Bowie launched in Barcelona at the Design Museum. The exhibition features more than 300 objects, including handwritten songs, original costumes, fashion items, photos, films, music videos, stage sets, instruments and album covers, tracing the life of the British singer.
In Barcelona, a city where Bowie performed on four occasions, the exhibition will be supplemented by a programme of parallel activities. UPF Barcelona School of Management is presenting Bowie Talks, a cycle of conferences, interviews and discussions organized by its various academic programmes, to analyse Bowie's work and personality from the perspective of different disciplines: audiovisual creation, cultural journalism, literary creation, finance, the music industry as a business, brand identity and fashion. The Bowie Talks provide an opportunity to see and hear live some of the people who worked directly with Bowie, such as record producer Daniel Grinback, Japanese designer Kansai Yamamoto, the official photographer for a number of his world tours, Denis O'Regan, the maker of the documentary David Bowie: The Last Five Years, Francis Whately, and others. Alongside the lecturers and experts from the business school, they will serve to decipher one of the great artistic icons of the 20th century, through an intriguing, open dialogue between academic knowledge and the different experiences of the performer's friends and collaborators.
All the conferences are free of charge, although places are limited and prior booking is required.
Thanks to the involvement of UPF Barcelona School of Management in David Bowie is, all current students, lecturers and staff of the master's and postgraduate school enjoy a special discount of 20% on the entry price to the exhibition (weekday tickets, from Monday to Thursday). Students of Universitat Pompeu Fabra are also eligible.
