Andreu Mas-Colell, 'Research in Catalonia, time to consolidate'

This act took place on Friday, 12th December in the Sala Gaudí in La Pedrera, which belongs to Caixa Catalunya.
The 28 participants from the first edition of the MLIC attended this talk by Andreu Mas-Colell, who spoke about the state of research in Catalonia and stated that ?even though we have made great progress, there is still a lot to do?.
Of special note among those attending the act were Dr. Jordi Camí, director of the PRBB, Dr. Miquel Perdiguer, director of the Obra Social de Caixa Catalunya, Dr. Josep-Eladi Baños, academic director of the MLIC, and Dr. Joan Bigorra, scientific director of the MLIC. To conclude the act there was a cocktail to allow participants on the MLIC to say their goodbyes to a course on which they have learnt to manage and lead scientific projects.
Everything ready for the second edition
After the positive balance of the first edition, the second edition of the Master in Leadership and Management in Science will begin on 23rd January, 2009. This second edition coincides with a key moment in the demand for professionals with both scientific and management training. State initiatives such as the National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2008-2011 and regional plans such as the Research and Innovation Pact in Catalonia, are examples of this. Public administration bodies are also making a great effort in Research and Development, with the creation of numerous centres specialising in scientific or technological research, some of them in collaboration with the private sector to strengthen the potential of innovation.
The Master in Leadership and Management in Science is an inter-university programme taught by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. It is also sponsored by the Obra Social de Caixa Catalunya.
