13rd International Meeting of RECLA in Barcelona
The Latin America and Europe Continuing Education Network (RECLA) celebrated its 13rd Annual Meeting at IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra from 3rd ? 5th July. Under the title ?Universities and Businesses faced with the Challenge of Social Responsibility: the Role of Continuing Education?, almost a hundred representatives from over 60 universities and businesses from 13 Latin American and European countries congregated in Barcelona to exchange experiences regarding the role of continuing education when faced with the challenge of CSR.
What is CSR? And how is it applied in universities? What is the opportunity cost? These were some of the questions asked within the framework of the meeting, which was attended by recognised speakers. Most notably among them were Ignasi Carreras, director of the Institute of Social Innovation at ESADE, Antonio Garrigues Walker, president of Garrigues Abogados, Vicente Ortún, director at UPF\'s Research Centre on Economics and Health, Carlos Peña, Rector of Diego Portales University (Chile), Jaume Pagès, CEO at Universia and Guillermo Ary Plonsky, professor at São Paulo University (Brazil).
During the course of the meeting participants were also presented with specific cases and experiences developed in the area of CRS in universities by representatives from various higher education institutions and businesses in Latin America and Europe.
The programme of social and cultural activities associated with the Meeting allowed the working days to end with a visit to different shows and events organised during these days in the city of Barcelona.

The 14th Meeting of RECLA will take place from 14th ? 16th October, 2009 in São Paulo, Brazil, and will be organised by São Paulo University.
