MSc in ICT Strategic Management

Presentation

This program has received verification as an Official Master's Degree within the European Union for the 2012-2014 Academic Year.

The aim of the Master of Science in ICT Strategic Management (MUISM) is to train professionals specialised in the use and management of the large quantity of information that is constantly being received in order to transform it into specific benefits for the organisations for which they work.

The strategic importance of information and communication technologies (ICT) has become increasingly visible with the advent of the internet, the convergence of technologies and the new generation of personal devices.

This has created a growing demand for specialists who are able to understand the importance of information and communication technologies.

The finance, energy, health and transport sectors are all extensive users of ICT and require well-trained professionals.

The Master of Science in ICT Strategic Management (MUSIM) was created on merging two pioneering international groups within the university, the ICT Department (listed amongst the top 100 in the world in the Shanghai Ranking '09) and the Economics and Business Department (first in the Tilburg Economics Ranking'08).

Objectives

The main objective of the programme is to provide professionals with the business skills needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive world and to teach them how to use the vast quantity of information that is continuously generated from different work processes in the most efficient way possible, in order to enhance the company's ICT strategies and make them beneficial for the company.

Programme

The MSc learning process brings together theory and practical skills, which is why it includes a compulsory internship period in a prestigious company. This professional environment is the perfect setting for students to develop their final project.

Furthermore, the MSc enhances students' leadership skills, has a multidisciplinary and international composition, and a flexible, practical and pragmatic approach towards management as a cross-disciplinary business attitude.

The programme consists of four terms, and during the first three, students study a total of 19 subjects. There are two tracks which run parallel and which are recommended for each of the two main student profiles (economics/business and engineering/science), but which share a common introductory course on the knowledge economy. The second and third terms offer a selection of strategic management subjects and tools. The last term consists of a part-time or full-time internship and development of the final project.
