UPF, among the best Spanish public
Researchers at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) have produced a new index to assess the quality of 43 public universities in Spain.
The study emphasises the good results obtained by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, which succeeded in gaining high marks in all the areas analysed. Other universities which obtained good marks were the Autònoma de Barcelona, Autònoma de Madrid, Córdoba and Santiago de Compostela. The study has been published in the latest issue of the magazine Social Indicators Research.
The quality of public universities in Spain has been measured according to a new index devised from a series of simple indicators which have been applied and assessed according to the methodology indicated by the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis), an assessment model in graphic format which relates various parameters with quality, and which has been used for the construction of synthetic indicators.
The UPF obtains good marks according to this new indicator
The study has identified the five best Spanish public universities awarded maximum marks, UPF being one of them.
Using the new methodology developed in this work, an analysis was carried out of each of the indicators which referred to the areas of teaching quality, student preferences when choosing courses -in terms of first or second choices-, resources achieved by research, scientific productivity in terms of doctorate theses studied, services and, most particularly, the degree of international mobility of s tudents. It is in this last area where two universities, Pompeu Fabra and the Autònoma de Barcelona, stand out for the high level of internationalisation of their students, according to data obtained from the participation of European students on the ERASMUS programme.
