The Dean of the Barcelona School of Management
Ana Valenzuela, Dean of the Barcelona School of Management, met with Professor Yoji Akao, founder of the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method, to show him the Pompeu Fabra University's new business school. The meeting took place on 28 September after Professor Yoji Akao contributed to the 5 th Business Meeting, “Reencontrar la escencia para innovar” (Rediscovering the Essence of Innovation). The meeting was organised by the Club for Excellence in Management and was sponsored by AENOR , Asenta , Banc Sabadell and Konsac Group , in collaboration with ACC1Ó , Casa Àsia , the Catalan Engineers' Association , the Barcelona School of Management -Pompeu Fabra University, PIMEC and Plataforma Editorial .
The Dean gave Professor Akao a tour of the UPF Business School, which trains students in Economics, Business and Public Management. During what was his first visit to Spain, the creator of QFD and the Dean also discussed his method, which allows clients' needs to translate into product specifications, to be prioritised and given innovative solutions , as well allowing processes to be improved to maximum effectiveness . Innovation is something that the QFD method and the Barcelona School of Management have in common, as the latter was founded on the principles of becoming an international leader in scientific output, transfer and training for 21 st century managers .
During the meeting, the creator of QFD stressed that “innovation requires thorough knowledge of the needs of clients and stakeholders, a detailed exploration of technology, synergy between numerous different perspectives and the incorporation of new ideas”.
The Barcelona School of Management , which began its first academic year, 2011-2012, on 15 September, has the support of the experience and renown of the UPF's Department of Economics and Business , which in recent years has become one of Europe's leading centres for teaching and research in its particular field.
