M. Teresa Turell, president of the International Association of Forensic Linguistics (IAFL) from July 2011

M.Teresa Turell, director of the ForensicLab (IULA) of the Pompeu Fabra University and director of the Master in Forensic Linguistics has been appointed president of the International Association of Forensic Linguistics . This election acknowledges Turell's international leadership in the educational training, research and expert witness domains.

M.Teresa Turell, director of ForensicLab (IULA) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, was elected president of the International Association of Forensic Linguists (IAFL) at the membership business meeting of the 10th Conference of the International Association of Forensic Linguists (IAFL) that took place in Birmingham (UK) in July 2011.

This election acknowledges Turell's international leadership in the educational training, research and expert witness domains. She is director of the first Master's degree in Forensic Linguistics taught in Spanish around the world (already evaluated by two Quality Agencies (ANECA and AQU)); she is the principal investigator of two competitive, and pioneer in Catalonia, Spain and worldwide, projects on forensic idiolectometry (EXPLORA -HUM2007-29140-E and FFI2008-03583, still in progress); she has supervised 5 PhD dissertations in forensic linguistics, and in the last 6 years she has written expert witness reports on plagiarism detection, authorship attribution and trademark litigation in over 60 cases in Catalonia, Spain and the US, and given evidence many times in civil and criminal lower courts and higher courts in Spain.

M. Teresa Turell has published extensively on plagiarism detection and authorship attribution in the International Journal of Speech, Language and the Law and is member of the editorial board of the OUP series in Language and Law and the International Journal of Speech, Language and the Law.
