Pompeu Fabra University agrees to set up the Barcelona School of Management
In its meeting on 18th June, the IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra Board of Rectors approved the constitution of Pompeu Fabra University\'s Barcelona School of Management (BSM) and nominated Manel Baucells as its acting dean. The BSM is due to start operating in the 2010-2011 academic year as an independent business unit within the IDEC foundation. The BSM will include a Board of Directors made up of representatives from UPF and companies who are taking part in the project, and an Academic Board.
Manel Baucells is an industrial engineer with an MBA from IESE and a doctorate in Business Philosophy from the Anderson School at UCLA. Among other positions, his business experience includes the presidency of Agroalimentaria Casa Pagès. More recently, he has been director of the Decisions Analysis Department at IESE. The public presentation of the Pompeu Fabra University \'s Barcelona School of Management will take place in the coming months.
Closing ceremony for the MBA part time
The closing ceremony of the tenth edition of the MBA part time took place on 7th May and as every year was one of the main activities of the business programmes in the second term of 2009. After congratulations from Joaquín Tena, the director of the programme, the newly graduated students were offered a lecture by Jaume Roures, co-founder of Mediapro.
With his professional experience, Roures illustrated the importance of the role of executives in the creation of the social fabric. The president of Mediapro pointed out the responsibility the new graduates will have in contributing to the well-being of their collaborators, depending on the relations which they establish with them as executives.
Prizes for best academic record and best business plan
First prize for the best academic record in the tenth edition of the MBA part time was awarded to Francesc Carulla and the second to Andrés Gay Ger. The project entitled Bonmenj@r received the prize for best business plan. Roger Ferrús, Joan Subirats and Francesc Carulla, creators of the winning project, had the idea of creating a sales and delivery chain for homemade food sold exclusively on the Internet and with previously established delivery points.
Seventh Annual MBA Meeting at the CaixaForum Barcelona
May 28th saw the celebration of the seventh edition of the Annual MBA Meeting at the CaixaForum in Barcelona. As every year, IDEC, together with the Alumni Association, organised the meeting of all the promotions of MBA part time and full time programmes. This year, the event also enjoyed the collaboration of ?La Caixa?, which provided the venue for this celebration.
The meeting, which aims to encourage contacts between alumni, was based on the idea of s peed-dating and allowed all those attending to meet and exchange business cards with another ten attendees for three-minute periods. This exercise in networking concluded with a cocktail and dinner on the terraces of the CaixaForum.
