Núria Basi, new president of Universitat Pompeu Fabra's Social Council
On 25th June, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, la Generalitat , approved a proposal by the Councillor for Innovation, Universities and Businesses to name the entrepreneur Núria Basi as the new president of Universitat Pompeu Fabra\'s Social Council. Basi takes over the post held previously by Mercè Sala, who presided over this body from April 2004 until her death on 7th May of this year.
Since S eptember 2005 Núria Basi Moré (Barcelona, 1953) has been president of Basi, S.A ., a Catalan company which designs, manufactures and commercialises knitwear, textile products, footwear and accessories for brands such as Lacoste, Armand Basi and Ferran Adrià by Armand Basi. Its textile products are distributed by a network of shops owned by the company and also franchises, multi-brand stores and department stores in Spain and abroad.
At present she is also assistant vicepresident of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Knitwear Association and member of the Board of Directors of the Foment del Treball Nacional and the Barcelona Fairs Administration Council.
In 2004, she was awarded a prize by the International Foundation for Female Entrepreneurs for her career in the family business. On 18 June of this year, she was awarded the IWEC prize, (International Women\'s Entrepreneurials Challenge) in New York, together with two other female entrepreneurs, for having created and established her company on the world market.
