IDEC-Pompeu Fabra University takes part in the 6th Conference on Safety, Emergencies and Catastrophes, organised by the University of Malaga
Conxita Lluna and Montse Mas, directors of the Postgraduate Programme in Psychosocial Intervention in Situations of Emergency and Catastrophes at IDEC-UPF, participated in the 6th Conference on Safety, Emergencies and Catastrophes organised by the University of Malaga in May.
The conference served as an opportunity for professionals from the different operational groups all over Spain that intervene in emergency and catastrophe situations to meet with representatives from the University of Malaga, the Jaume I University of Castelló and IDEC-Pompeu Fabra.
On the final day of the conference, the directors of the postgraduate programme took part in a 24-hour drill, in which successive explosions were simulated in the old “La Corchera” factory. The simulation was used to show several scenarios, such as rescuing the injured, suicide attempts and dealing with family members.
Participation in the conference has strengthened existing links with the Safety, Emergencies and Catastrophes Department at the University of Malaga, and with OPSIDE at Jaume I University in Castelló, an organisation that actively participates in the IDEC postgraduate course. Similarly, new lines of cooperation have been established with the Spanish Society of Applied Psychology in Disasters and Emergency Situations, and with the Peruvian Society of Emergency Psychology.
