First edition of the Museum Management Seminar organised by Johns Hopkins University
This June, IDEC hosted “Museums in Changing Times", the first edition of the Museum Management Seminar held as part of the MA in Museum Studies from Johns Hopkins University’s Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences.
The seminar, coordinated by the team of directors from the Postgraduate Programme in Museum Management IDEC-Universitat Pompeu Fabra, in cooperation with the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), combined taught sessions with an intense programme of museum visits, featuring the Picasso Museum, the Joan Miró Foundation, the Natural Science Museum and the Museum of the History of Barcelona, among others.
The students gave overwhelmingly positive feedback on the seminar. They all confirmed that their expectations had been met, and 95% rated it as excellent.
Some of the comments taken from the evaluations demonstrate this rating:
“This has been the best learning experience of my career”
“This seminar exceeded my expectations – by far the most important, strategic, useful, engaging and fun course in the Museum Studies programme”
“The seminar was very engaging [...] I would consider extending the seminar an extra week or two”
“The seminar has exceeded my expectations [...] it has given me new eyes with which to look at museums”
