The documentary 'Cartas a María' by Maite García premières in Barcelona

Cartas a María is an initiative created as part of the Master in Creative Documentary at Pompeu Fabra and produced by Mallerich Films-Paco Poch and Pages&Images (Montpellier).

Maite García began working on the documentary as a student in this master program, which has produced other renowned films such as The Plague (Neus Ballús), Buenaventura Durruti: Anarchist (Jean Louis Comolli, produced by Paco Poch), The Sky Turns and Futures Market (Mercedes Álvarez), Cravan vs. Cravan and The Legend of Time (Isaki Lacuesta) and August Days (Marc Recha).

This documentary stems from Maite García's need to recover family memories upon realizing that her father has Alzheimer's and is unable to tell the story of her previously unknown grandparents. Letters to Maria attempts to retrace her grandfather's steps, one of the hundreds of thousands of Spaniards who crossed the Pyrenees in 1939. To piece together the family's past, a harrowing tale of life in exile -the story of an entire generation-, Maite García uses 46 of her grandfather's letters.
