Benedetta Tagliabue Inaugurates the Barcelona School of Management's First Year

On 15 September 2011, the Barcelona School of Management, Pompeu Fabra University's
new business school, began its first academic year with an inaugural address
given by the prestigious Italian architect and designer Benedetta
Tagliabue
.

The opening event was presided over by Josep Joan Moreso,
Rector of the UPF and President of the Board of Directors of the Barcelona
School of Management, and was attended by Ana Valenzuela,
Dean of the Barcelona School of Management, Núria Basi,
President of the UPF Social Council, and Josep
Maria Martorell i Rodon
, Director General of Research for the Catalan
Government.

In front of an auditorium full of representatives from institutions and business,
as well as students of the new school, Benedetta Tagliabue gave
an interesting account of her architectural firm's internationalisation process,
which reached a key moment last year when it won the concession for the Spain
Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo.

The Barcelona School of Management chose Tagliabue to deliver the inaugural
speech as the values with which she imbues her architecture — innovation,
internationality and creativity
— are also key values within the Barcelona
School of Management's vision.

Josep Maria Martorell i Rodon , Director General of Research
for the Catalan Government, highlighted the quest for quality and excellence as
a key differentiating factor for the Barcelona School of Management. He also
emphasised the need to change the manner in which universities are managed
so that they may better respond to the needs of society.
